Barfoot & Thompson is Extending its Reach in the Upper North Island Through Ongoing Expansion Efforts

Barfoot & Thompson's growth in the upper North Island persists with the recent addition of Whangamata Real Estate to its portfolio. This expansion comes on the heels of the establishment of two Residential Sales offices in Tauranga, namely Cherrywood and Ōmokoroa, a milestone achieved in late 2023.

Led by third-generation family members Peter Thompson (Managing Director) and Stephen Barfoot (Director), along with CEO Chris Dobbie, the longstanding company, with a history spanning a century, has established its roots in Auckland and Northland. The expansion into Tauranga and the subsequent venture into the Coromandel mark a significant milestone, ushering in a fresh chapter in the company's rich history.

Mr Dobbie, emphasises the enduring presence of Whangamata Real Estate in the local community, spanning nearly seven decades. Aligning with our own established market share and extensive tenure in the real estate sector, they serve as a robust counterpart.

Mr Dobbie highlights the significance of the "Golden Triangle" encompassing Auckland, Hamilton, and Tauranga, where nearly half of New Zealand's population resides, driving much of the nation's economic activity.

"With our deep roots in Auckland, a controlling interest in Lodge Real Estate (Hamilton), and operational offices in Tauranga, we now possess a solid foundation to extend our reach into the Coromandel region, marking the next phase of our expansion strategy."

Acquiring Barfoot & Thompson not only adds an extra dimension to Whangamata Real Estate but also extends its global network to clients. As one of just a handful of real estate agencies in New Zealand affiliated with Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, they join an elite group of premier real estate agencies globally, strengthened by their association with the Luxury Portfolio company.

In 2011, Murray Cleland and his wife Barbara acquired Whangamata Real Estate. Murray expresses enthusiasm about the recent sale, highlighting the shared values of both companies in assisting clients with real estate transactions.

Joining the Barfoot and Thompson family marks an exciting development for both entities, providing clients the chance to showcase their properties across an extensive network in New Zealand and internationally.

Murray, a well-known local figure, will maintain his role as Branch Manager, overseeing the existing sales and property management team. Despite the change in ownership, the company will retain its identity as Whangamata Real Estate, a name that has thrived for the past 70 years.
